Linus Ullmark won the 2022-23 Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goaltender after backstopping the Boston Bruins to their record-setting season.
The 29-year-old topped finalists Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets and Ilya Sorokin of the New York Islanders to take home the award for the first time at the NHL Awards ceremony Monday night.
He posted a 48-6-1 record with a league-best 1.89 goals against average and .938 save percentage and if that’s not enough, even scored the NHL’s first goalie goal in three years.
A former sixth-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres, UIlmark allowed two or fewer goals in 36 of his 49 appearances this season.
Ullmark and teammate Jeremy Swayman also won the William M. Jennings Trophy after allowing the fewest total goals during the regular season.
After joining Boston via free agency in 2021, Ullmark is the first Bruins goalie to win the Vezina since Tukka Rask in 2013-14.
