Bruins' Taylor Hall fined $5K for punching Maple Leafs' Ilya Lyubushkin

Boston Bruins forward Taylor Hall has been fined $5,000 by the league for sucker-punching Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Ilya Lyubushkin in a game Tuesday night.

Hall's fine was the maximum for such an infraction as per the collective bargaining agreement.

The incident occurred with a little less than five minutes left to play in the second period, when Hall appeared to punch Lyubushkin in the side of the head from behind and then shoved him down to the ice after the Leafs defenceman had first knocked him down close to the boards.

Hall was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for roughing.

Lyubushkin left the game after the punch, which was in retaliation for a hit, and did not return.
