The Calgary Flames have signed their second selection from the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft, forward Matvei Gridin, to an entry-level deal, the team announced on Friday.
The contract will carry an annual cap hit of $975,000, through the 2026-27 season.
The six-foot-one, Kurgan, Russia, native had an explosive year in the USHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. During the 2023-24 season, Gridin recorded 38 goals and 45 assists for 83 points through 60 games, an impressive increase on his rookie numbers that saw him post 19 points in 40 games a year prior.
The Flames acquired the 28th pick via a trade that sent forward Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks in January.
