The Montreal Canadiens added some organizational forward depth Wednesday by inking Mitchell Stephens to a one-year, two-way deal.
Stephens suited up for 27 games with the Detroit Red Wings in 2021-22, recording six assists while averaging 11:11 of ice-time per game.
The 2015 second-round selection of the Lightning hasn’t scored at the NHL level since his rookie season in 2019-20. Stephens, 25, saw action in seven post-season contests with Tampa that season en route to winning the Stanley Cup.
The 25-year-old has also played 130 games with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch since 2017-18, scoring 36 goals and adding 47 assists.
Canadiens GM Kent Hughes announced the team signed forward Anthony Richard and defenceman Madison Bowey to one-year, two-way contracts on the opening day of free agency.
