Montreal Canadiens defenceman Joel Edmundson was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for a crosscheck to the head of Zach Hyman that sent the Edmonton Oilers forward into the boards during the second period of their Saturday night game.
Hyman, not known to stay down, had to wait on the ice for the trainer, who came out to attend to a wound on his forehead from where his head hit the glass.
Edmundson's subsequent penalty shifted the momentum of the game. Edmonton, already on a power play when the penalty occurred, capitalized quickly on the 5-on-3 advantage with a Leon Draisaitl goal.
Hyman returned to the game soon after and assisted on another 5-on-3 powerplay goal, this one by Connor McDavid.
