The Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames have finalized their initial rosters and taxi squads ahead of the 2020-21 NHL season, with their peers in the North Division expected to follow suit Tuesday.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NHL is allowing each team to carry four-to-six players on a taxi squad to keep extra bodies available in the event of a last-minute positive COVID-19 test or separate injury. Players on the taxi squad will be able to practice and travel with the team while collecting the same salary they would have in the AHL.
The puck drops on the NHL season Wednesday with five games, headlined by the Maple Leafs hosting the Canadiens and the Oilers hosting the Canucks on Sportsnet.
