The Montreal Canadiens have ruled out forward Paul Byron for the remainder of Wednesday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres.
Byron was driven into the boards by Sabres defenceman Mattias Samuelsson early into the first period. Canadiens defenceman Ben Chiarot also appeared to skate backward into Byron as he was down on the ice. No penalty was called on the play although Byron was bleeding from the nose.
Montreal also lost forward Josh Anderson, who was hit with a puck in the side of the head while blocking a shot during the second period.
Both Byron and Anderson were taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons and there is no timeline for their return to the lineup, according to the team.

The Canadiens (12-33-7) shut out the Sabres 4-0 to win their fourth in a row. Montreal’s next game is Saturday on the road against the Ottawa Senators.
