Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher figures to be facing a meeting with the NHL's Department of Player Safety after he received a five-minute major and game misconduct for an elbow to the head of New York Islanders defenceman Adam Pelech in the third period on Thursday.
Gallagher caught Pelech with the elbow in the neutral zone well after the latter player had passed the puck.
Pelech skated to the locker-room after he was attended to by a trainer.
The Islanders, trailing 3-1 at the time of the hit, scored two goals on the ensuing power play to tie it. But the Canadiens scored a late goal to win 4-3.
"I think we all saw what happened and I'm sure the league's going to review the hit," Islanders coach Patrick Roy said. "That's all I can say for now."
Gallagher has eight goals and eight assists in 48 games this season.
