Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher will have a hearing with the NHL's department of player safety for an illegal check to the head of New Islanders defenceman Adam Pelech.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports that it will be a phone hearing instead of an in-person hearing which means that Gallagher can receive a maximum suspension of five games.
Gallagher received a five-minute major and game misconduct for an elbow to the head of Pelech during the third period of Thursday's game. Gallagher caught Pelech with the elbow in the neutral zone well after the latter player had passed the puck.
Pelech skated to the locker room after he was attended to by a trainer.
"I think we all saw what happened and I'm sure the league's going to review the hit," Islanders coach Patrick Roy said. "That's all I can say for now."
Gallagher has eight goals and eight assists in 48 games this season.
