Canadiens' Gallagher vents frustration after 'terrible call' in loss to Flames

Brendan Gallagher was not shy about venting his frustration after he was called for a tripping penalty late in Tuesday's loss to the Calgary Flames.

The penalty occurred as Gallagher and Flames centre Elias Lindholm battled for the puck behind the Canadiens net. The official closer to the play didn't call a penalty but the one near centre ice did.

Gallagher began yelling at the officials as soon as the penalty was whistled and had to be helped to the penalty box by a linesperson. Cameras then caught the veteran forward throwing a water bottle while sitting in the box.

"Can't happen. He's in the neutral zone. It's a terrible call," Gallagher said after the game, according to Sportsnet's Eric Engels. "You can't make that mistake, simple as that. Guy turns backwards and hits the net. (The ref's partner) is right there, let him call it. The reason he called it is their bench makes noise and he reacts to it. Can't happen."

While the Flames wouldn't score on the power play, they did eventually hold on to win 2-1. The Canadiens have now lost five of their seven games in November.
