Canadiens give update on Nick Suzuki's injury, make first cuts

Canadiens forward Kirby Dach says he's excited to play with rookie Juraj Slafkovský, says he's a big boy, that's fast and has a great shot, and thinks his skills will fit well on a line with him and Rem Pitlick.

Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki has resumed skating and is expected to rejoin his teammates in one week, the team announced Monday.

Suzuki has been out since the beginning of camp with a lower-body injury suffered when he collided with defenceman Joel Edmundson during an informal skate.

Edmundson injured his back in the collision — seemingly re-aggravating a previous injury — and the Canadiens said Monday he remains out indefinitely.

Defenceman Madison Bowey is also day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.

The Canadiens also announced the first cuts of training camp Monday, releasing goalie Antoine Coulombe, centre Jared Davidson, left wing Cédrick Guindon and defenceman Daniil Sobolev.

The Canadiens open their pre-season schedule Monday night at home against the Devils. First-overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky and off-season addition Kirby Dach are both expected to play in the game.
