Cayden Primeau is set to get a chance to re-establish himself in the minor leagues.
The Montreal Canadiens goaltender cleared waivers on Sunday and will be loaned to the American Hockey League's Laval Rocket, the team announced.
Primeau, who was put on waivers Saturday, has a 2-3-1 record, 4.70 goals-against average and .836 save percentage over 11 games with the Canadiens this season.
His most recent appearance came Dec. 12, allowing three goals on seven shots in relief of starter Sam Montembeault during a 9-2 loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The 25-year-old Primeau was drafted in the seventh round, 199th overall, by the Canadiens in 2017.
He posted an 8-9-4 record, 2.99 GAA and .910 save percentage in 23 games last season.
Montreal recalled goaltender Jakub Dobes from Laval on Friday. Dobes made his first NHL start on Saturday in a shutout win over the Florida Panthers.
