The Montreal Canadiens won't have one of their young defencemen for their season opener on Wednesday against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.
Jayden Struble was ruled out Tuesday after leaving the ice early at practice, the team announced.
Struble also missed practice Monday for a therapy day, but coach Martin St. Louis said he wasn't concerned about a long-term absence.
Struble, 23, had three goals and seven assists in 56 games last season in his rookie year in the NHL.
The Canadiens also announced Samuel Montembeault will start in net.
