The Montreal Canadiens announced Saturday morning that the club has loaned winger Filip Mesar back to the Kitchener Rangers.
Mesar was selected 26th overall by the Habs in the 2022 NHL Draft and had his first taste of training camp this fall. The Slovakian tried to hang on to a spot in the Canadiens organization but ultimately Montreal's front office decided he would spend the season in the OHL.
Mesar played in the Laval Rocket's season opener, a 6-5 overtime loss to the Binghamton Senators, Friday night. The 18-year-old suited up on the fourth line alongside Jan Mysak and Lucas Condotta. Mesar picked up two shots and held a minus-1 differential.
