Montreal Canadiens winger Michael Pezzetta has been suspended two games for a check to the head of Washington Capitals winger T.J. Oshie on Saturday, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced on Monday.
The hit came in the third period of Washington's 8-4 win with Pezzetta assessed a minor penalty for a hit to the head.
In the video explaining the hit, the Department of Player Safety says Pezzetta took a poor angle and could have avoided head contact.
It marks the first fine or suspension of Pezzetta's 47-game NHL career.
The 24-year-old Toronto native has five goals and three assists in 47 games this season.
