The Montreal Canadiens have placed defenceman Nicolas Beaudin on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Sunday.
According to Friedman, the 24-year-old had been unhappy with his minutes playing for AHL affiliate Laval Rocket, so his contract termination is a mutual agreement.
Predominantly playing in the AHL throughout his career, Beaudin has only made 22 appearances in the NHL over the past five years. He has two goals and six points in that time. His last appearance was during the 2021-22 season with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Beaudin, who was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the first round of the 2018 draft, had yet to make any appearances with the Canadiens.
He was traded to Montreal in 2022 for forward Cameron Hillis. He signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Canadiens in July 2023.
In his time with the Rocket, the Chateauguay, Que., native has made 55 appearances, notching two goals and 29 points in two seasons. He has zero goals and six assists this year.
