The Montreal Canadiens have placed defenceman Mike Matheson on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury and recalled blueliner Corey Schueneman from AHL affiliate Laval, the club announced Thursday.
Matheson did not participate in the Canadiens' season-opening win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday and has not skated since Montreal played the Ottawa Senators in pre-season action on Oct. 6.
The Pointe-Claire, Que., native was acquired by his hometown Canadiens along with a fourth-round pick in exchange for Jeff Petry and Ryan Poehling this summer. He has yet to make his debut for the bleu, blanc, rouge.
Schueneman, 27, split his time between the AHL and NHL last season, producing two goals and four assists in 24 games with the Canadiens.
