  • Canadiens rookie Slafkovsky to have hearing for boarding Red Wings' Luff

Montreal Canadiens rookie forward Juraj Slafkovsky will have a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety after was ejected from Tuesday's win over the Red Wings for boarding.

The incident occurred with just over five minutes remaining in the third period. As Red Wings forward Matt Luff attempted to play a bouncing puck in the neutral zone, he was hit in the back by Slafkovsky and fell hard into the boards.

Luff was in distress on the ice after the hit and Slafkovsky was given a game misconduct for boarding. After the game, Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde told media that Luff won't be back on the ice "anytime soon."

"The right call was made," Lalonde said. "It's the exact hit you want to try to avoid, because of exactly what happened. A player got seriously injured."

Slafkovsky, the first-overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, was playing in his 10th game of the season. He has three goals in those games.

The Canadiens play their next three games at home, including Wednesday night against the Canucks on Sportsnet and SN NOW.
