The Montreal Canadiens have signed goaltender Samuel Montembeault to a three-year extension with an average annual value of $3.15 million, the team announced Friday.
Sportsnet's Eric Engels reports that Montembeault's new deal does not include trade protection.
Montembeault, 27, has played 10 games with the Canadiens this season, posting a 5-3-1 record to go along with a 2.73 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.
The goaltender was claimed by the Canadiens in October 2021 after being placed on waivers by the Florida Panthers. After starting goaltender Jake Allen was injured, Montembeault took over starting duties for an extended period that season and put on a performance that earned him a two-year, $2-million extension.
The native of Becancour, Que., was selected 77th overall by the Panthers in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Montembeault has a 3.42 GAA and .897 save percentage in 113 career games with the Panthers and Canadiens.
The six-foot-three Montembeault also helped Canada win gold at this year's world championship.
