The Vancouver Canucks announced Monday that forward Vasily Podkolzin has been assigned to the team's AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks.
The 21-year-old has been off to a slow start to begin this season, with just three points in 16 appearances and multiple healthy scratches.
Since making his National Hockey League debut in 2021, Podkolzin has been a staple in the Canucks' lineup. He had a relatively successful rookie campaign last year, netting 14 goals and 12 assists in 79 games.
When the Canucks' 2021-22 season ended early due to the team failing to make the playoffs, Podkolzin made his AHL debut with Abbotsford for their playoff season. In two post-season games with the minor squad, the Russian recorded two points.
With Monday's roster move, Podkolzin will likely make his AHL regular-season debut in the very near future as Abbotsford is set to play four games at home this week.
The club also announced defenceman Jack Rathbone has been sent down to Abbotsford as well. The 23-year-old has played only six games with Vancouver so far this season, collecting a singular assist.
