Canucks get out of Buffalo storm, flying to Columbus from Toronto

The Vancouver Canucks took the, ummm, scenic route to Columbus for their game against the Blue Jackets on Monday.

Canucks reporter Kate Pettersen tweeted Sunday afternoon that the Canucks got out of storm-ravaged Buffalo by bus and crossed the border for a trip to Pearson International Airport in Toronto.

From there, the Canucks flew to Columbus for Monday's matinee (1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT).

Sportsnet's Shawn McKenzie reported that the Canucks' equipment arrived at Scotiabank Arena on Sunday, surprising those who were expecting the Detroit Red Wings' gear ahead of their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Red Wings' gear arrived about 25 minutes later and the Canucks' equipment was put back on the truck, presumably destined for the airport. The Red Wings also were delayed flying out of Detroit, pushing back the start time for Sunday's game in Toronto.

The Canucks were stuck in Buffalo overnight Saturday after a 1-0 win over the Sabres. Many flights out of Buffalo Niagara International Airport have been cancelled over the past 24 hours.

The lake-effect storm caused the NFL to postpone Sunday's Buffalo Bills playoff home against the Pittsburgh Steelers until Monday afternoon.

The Sabres, meanwhile, host the San Jose Sharks on Monday afternoon. San Jose stayed in Ottawa after a game against the Senators on Saturday and arrived in Buffalo on Sunday night.
