Canucks' Hoglander fined $2.9K for high-sticking Red Wings' Walman

Vancouver Canucks forward Nils Hoglander has been fined $2,864.58 for high-sticking Detroit Red Wings defenceman Jake Walman during Thursday's game.

The NHL announced the fine — the maximum allowable under the league's CBA — on Friday.

Hoglander struck Walman with a high-stick in the third period of the Canucks' 4-1 win over the Red Wings. No call was made on the play and Walman was visibly upset afterward as he complained to referees while back on the Red Wings' bench.

It was at this time that Nikita Zadorov mocked Walman by hitting the "Griddy" in reference to his goal celebration from their previous matchup five days earlier.

Walman was also on the receiving end of an accidental high-stick to the head from Elias Pettersson earlier in the night.

Hoglander, 23, has 24 points (17 goals and seven assists) in 53 games this season. This marks the second time he has been fined over his NHL career.
