The slumping Vancouver Canucks got some good news on Sunday.
Captain Quinn Hughes and forward Elias Pettersson, who are both dealing with injuries, returned to practice on Sunday.
After practice, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchett said that Hughes is day-to-day and is a possibility for Monday's game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Both players have missed the Canucks' past two games. Hughes’ injury is believed to be to his hand or wrist, and Pettersson’s to his upper body.
Hughes (42 points) and Pettersson (28 points) are first and third, respectively, in scoring for the Canucks this season.
Pettersson, who signed his extension last season and is in the first of an eight-year, $92.8-million contract, has been the centre of alleged off-ice drama between him and centre J.T. Miller.
While both players have publicly denied the feud — in contrast with statements from captain Quinn Hughes and head coach Rick Tocchet that suggest otherwise — it seems that the organization is looking at drastic moves to kill the noise once and for all.
"The Canucks are definitely, definitely looking at the market for both players and you should be prepared for all outcomes," Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on the Saturday Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada.
The Canucks have lost three of their past four games, and are currently just one point up on the Calgary Flames for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
