Abbotsford Canucks defenceman Mark Friedman has been released from hospital and will continue to be evaluated by physicians, the team said Wednesday.
Friedman was injured during the third period of Abbotsford's 3-0 win at home Tuesday against the Tucson Roadrunners.
The 28-year-old from Toronto was skating through the slot of the offensive zone when he was hit in the head by Tuscon's Montana Onyebuchi.
Friedman, who remained on the ice, was taken away on a stretcher and transported to hospital for evaluation.
Friedman was acquired by the Vancouver Canucks last year from the Pittsburgh Penguins and re-signed on a one-year deal in June. Vancouver placed him on waivers ahead of the season for the purpose of assignment to AHL Abbotsford.
Friedman was drafted in the third round by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2014. He has played 88 career games in the NHL with four goals and 13 points over six seasons with Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Vancouver.
