Canucks' Pettersson and Hoglander leave game vs. Rangers with injuries

The Vancouver Canucks lost a couple of key forwards during Saturday's game against the New York Rangers.

The team announced that both Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander would not return after suffering separate injuries.

Pettersson left halfway through the second period, showing some discomfort after the referee waived him out of the faceoff circle. He then headed down the tunnel and was not on the bench for the start of the third period, playing just 7:50.

Hoglander was also absent at the start of the period, but it was not clear if or when he got injured. He played only 7:03 of ice time before leaving.

Following the game, head coach Rick Tocchet told reporters he had no update on the status for either of the forwards, but did speculate that the Canucks could have to recall a centre from AHL Abbotsford.

In his Saturday Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that they're still being evaluated and that the team hopes to know more before they play the New Jersey Devils on Monday.

Pettersson has struggled this season with 15 goals and 45 points in 63 games but came into Saturday's matchup in New York with points in his last five contests.

In 65 games, Hoglander has six goals and 21 points including six points in his last five games.
