The Vancouver Canucks have recalled defenceman Matt Irwin and forward Linus Karlsson from Abbotsford and assigned blue-liner Akito Hirose to their AHL affiliate, the team announced Wednesday.
The Canucks are shuffling the roster after defenceman Carson Soucy was placed on long-term injured reserve with a lower-body injury last week and defenceman Anthony Beauvillier was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday. Pius Suter (lower body) is also out.
Ilya Mikheyev, who took a Tyler Myers slap shot off the top of his knee in Tuesday's game and had to be helped off the ice, returned to practice on Wednesday.
Irwin, 36, has two assists in 13 games with Abbotsford. The Victoria native hasn't played for Vancouver since signing a two-way contract with the club in the summer.
Karlsson, 24, has three goals and 12 assists in 17 games with Abbotsford this season. He has played one game for Vancouver, his NHL debut earlier this month against Calgary.
Hirose has played three games for Vancouver and 11 for Abbotsford this season.
