The Vancouver Canucks announced Thursday that they have recalled forward Jack Studnicka from the American Hockey League under emergency conditions.
As a result of their current injuries and lack of cap space, the Canucks played with just 17 skaters (one forward short) against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night.
Under the Roster Emergency Exception (REE) in the National Hockey League's CBA, Vancouver is able to call up Studnicka without it impacting their cap. However, Studnicka must be returned to the Abbotsford Canucks as soon as they are back to having 18 healthy skaters available.
Studnicka, 24, appeared in 47 games for Vancouver over the 2022-23 season, collecting eight points (four goals and four assists).
The Canucks will travel to play the Oilers on Saturday as part of Hockey Night in Canada.
