The Vancouver Canucks have recalled defenceman Mark Friedman from Abbotsford.
To make room for Friedman on the roster, Vancouver sent Arshdeep Bains down to the AHL.
The move comes after Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that blueliner Filip Hronek could be "out for a while" after leaving Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins following an awkward collision.
Hronek went shoulder-first into the end boards after a hit by Penguins defenceman Jack St. Ivany with less than a minute remaining in the game.
This puts Friedman in line to make his season debut after playing in eight games in the AHL. The 28-year-old appeared in 23 games with the Canucks last season, registering an assist.
Bains has been playing mainly in a fourth-line role through 11 games played in the NHL this season and was a healthy scratch in Vancouver's last game.
