Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet is not ready to name a starting goaltender for Game 2 of the team's second-round series against the Edmonton Oilers.
Tocchet acknowledged that Arturs Silovs has earned the right to play but said he will have a roundtable discussion with his coaching staff to determine if Silovs or Casey DeSmith will go in net.
"I think he's earned the right to play but we haven't had our roundtable yet," Tocchet explained. "We have Casey who could play tomorrow. He's had a couple of injuries a long time ago but he's past that and is definitely a viable option for us."
Silovs appeared in his fourth game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Canucks allowing four goals on 18 shots in a 5-4 win in Game 1. Silovs replaced DeSmith as the team's starter in Game 4 against the Nashville Predators after the latter goalie suffered a lower-body injury.
All-star Thatcher Demko was in net for Vancouver in Game 1 of the Predators series but he sustained a lower-body injury and is currently week to week. Demko was replaced by DeSmith, who went 1-1-0 with a 2.02 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in Games 2 and 3 before going down himself.
Regardless of who is in the net, the Canucks have a chance to extend their lead over the Oilers in Game 2 on Friday. Fans can watch the game at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
