Injured Vancouver Canucks star centre Elias Pettersson might be back in the lineup as soon as Thursday, coach Bruce Boudreau said Tuesday.
“He’s day-to-day," Boudreau told reporters. "This is not a long-term thing with him. ... Hopefully, Thursday he’ll be able to play.”
Pettersson reportedly has an upper-body injury and missed an optional game skate Sunday, to which Boudreau cited as "just maintenance," and that night's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Pettersson had played in all 59 Canucks games to that point.
The 23-year-old, who re-signed with the club on a three-year, $22.05-million in the off-season, has 42 points in this season, a decrease in production compared to his first three NHL seasons.
The Canucks, who host the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, are 3-2-1 in their last six games. They host the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
