The Washington Capitals are going to have to get used to life without their biggest star.
Alex Ovechkin suffered a lower-leg injury Monday night against the Utah Hockey Club and is listed as week-to-week, the Capitals announced Tuesday.
Ovechkin will undergo further evaluation with team doctors on Wednesday in Washington.
Ovechkin was hurt early in the third period when he had a knee-on-knee collision with Utah’s Jack McBain.
The Russian scored twice before the injury to give him a league-high 15 goals this season.
By scoring on Connor Ingram, Ovechkin tied Jaromir Jagr’s NHL record with goals against 178 different goalies.
The 20-year NHL veteran had five goals over his past two games.
Ovechkin, 39, has 868 career goals, 26 behind Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894.
