Washington Capitals centre Evgeny Kuznetsov says he tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time, leading to his second stint on the NHL’s COVID protocols list this season.
Kuznetsov, along with Capitals goaltender Ilya Samsonov, returned to Washington’s lineup from the COVID list for Game 3 of the team’s first-round series against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday. Kuznetzov missed eight games during what was his second time on the NHL’s COVID protocols list.
Kuznetsov after testing positive for the virus again and missing over 2 weeks: "It's funny, they said it's not a lot of people get it twice, so it wasn't easy to be in hockey shape right away after you sit in a house."

The 28-year-old was among a group of Capitals added to the NHL’s COVID-19 list in January when the team was also fined $100,000 for violating coronavirus protocols.
Kuznetsov played 26:41 in Wednesday’s overtime loss to the Bruins, recording one shot on goal. In 41 regular-season games, Kuznetsov scored nine goals and 29 points.
