Alex Ovechkin continued adding his name to record books on Saturday when he potted his 30th of the season, which tied him with former Washington Capitals great Mike Gartner for the most 30-goal seasons in NHL history with 17.
The first-period backhander over Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter Hart was goal number 810 for the veteran star, who's on pace to break Wayne Gretzky's all-time record for goals (894) in the next few seasons.
Ovechkin has scored at least 30 goals in every season since he entered the NHL in 2005, besides the Covid-shortened 2020-2021 campaign when he scored 24 in 45 games.
Gartner was one of the Capitals' best players in the franchise's lean early years. Drafted fourth overall by Washington in the '79 draft, he spent the first 10 years of his Hall of Fame career with the club.
