The Washington Capitals signed forward Spencer Smallman to a two-year, two-way contract extension on Tuesday.
The deal holds an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level and $380,000 in the American Hockey League.
He was slated to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Smallman, who signed a one-year deal with the Capitals last July, has a career-high 33 points (nine goals and 24 assists) in 55 games with the AHL's Hershey Bears this season.
The 28-year-old from Summerside, P.E.I., was drafted in the fifth round, 138th overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2015.
Smallman, who has yet to play in the NHL during the regular season, has 128 points (47 goals and 81 assists) in 299 career games in the AHL with the Charlotte Checkers, Chicago Wolves, Colorado Eagles and Bears. He captured the Calder Cup with the Wolves in 2022.
