• Capitals recall defenceman Ethan Bear from AHL

Ethan Bear is back with the big club in time for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Washington Capitals recalled the veteran defenceman from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League on Saturday.

Bear spent the entire regular season with Hershey, recording a team-leading 46 points (10 goals, 36 assists) and a plus-33 in 62 games. The 27-year-old from Regina represented Hershey at the AHL All-Star Classic and was named to the Second All-Star Team.

He joined the Capitals as a free agent last season and had four points (one goal, three assists) in 24 games.

Bear was drafted in the fifth round, 124th overall, by the Edmonton Oilers in 2015.

He has 67 points (17 goals, 50 assists) in 275 career games over six seasons with the Oilers, Carolina Hurricanes, Vancouver Canucks and Capitals.

The Capitals begin their quest for the Stanley Cup on Monday when they host the Montreal Canadiens for Game 1 of the opening round.
