Capitals sign defenceman Dylan McIlrath to two-year contract extension

Dylan McIlrath is staying in the U.S. capital.

The league-leading Washington Capitals signed the veteran defenceman to a two-year, $1.6 million contract extension on Thursday, the team announced.

McIlrath, 32, has appeared in 11 games for the Capitals this season and has two assists.

The Winnipeg native was originally selected 10th overall in the 2010 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers.

In 86 career NHL games with the Capitals, Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers, McIlrath has three goals and two assists.
