Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has been offered an in-person hearing for high-sticking Toronto Maple Leafs forward Noah Gregor, the department of player safety announced Thursday.
The date and time of the hearing are to be determined.
An in-person hearing offers the department of player safety the option to suspend Wilson for more than five games. The bruising forward has been suspended five times over the course of his career, including a 20-game suspension in 2018 that was reduced to 14 upon appeal for an illegal check to the head.
The high-stick occurred midway through the third period of Wednesday's game as Wilson appeared to swing his stick, catching Gregor in the face. Wilson was assessed a four-minute double minor on the play.
The 29-year-old will remain suspended until the in-person hearing takes place.
Wilson has appeared in 66 games for the Capitals this season, scoring 17 goals and 32 points.
