The Carolina Hurricanes have signed a 20-year lease extension with the owners of PNC Arena, the team announced Tuesday.
The lease states that the Hurricanes will occupy PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. through the 2043-44 NHL season.
As part of the agreement, PNC Arena will undergo major renovations, including the development of a sports and entertainment district and public gathering space around the arena.
"This is an exciting day for the Triangle," said Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon. "This development will transform PNC Arena into a year-round destination for residents, while also improving the event day experience for Hurricanes fans, NC State fans and concertgoers alike. North Carolina is the home of the Hurricanes, and I am proud to say that the Hurricanes will continue to call PNC Arena home."
Luke DeCock of The News & Observer in Carolina reported that an NHL spokesperson says the league is committed to another All-Star Game as well as an outdoor game for the Hurricanes in a "timely manner" now that the lease deal is done.
The Hurricanes have played in PNC Arena since 1999.
