The Colorado Avalanche are making a move to address its goaltending woes.
Colorado announced that it acquired goalie Scott Wedgewood from the Nashville Predators in exchange for netminder Justus Annunen and a 2025 sixth-round pick.
Wedgewood is in his first season in Nashville after signing a two-year, $3 million contract this past off-season. The 32-year-old has an .878 save percentage and a 3.69 goals against average in five games this season.
Goaltending has been a hot topic in Denver so far this season. Viewed as a Stanley Cup contender, the Avs sit at 13-11-0 and have a league-worst .855 team save percentage. Colorado also ranks 30th in goals allowed per game (3.71), while giving up the third-fewest shots per game (25.6).
Wedgewood played the previous three seasons in Dallas as a backup to Jake Oettinger. In 61 games, he had a .907 save percentage and a 2.83 goals against average.
In Annunen, Nashville gets a young goaltender with experience to back up Juuse Saros. The 24-year-old appeared in 11 games for the Avalanche this season, starting nine. He has a 3.22 goals against average and an .872 save percentage, and is in the first year of a two-year, $1.675 million contract.
Colorado hosts the Oilers Saturday, while the Predators are in Minnesota.
