The Vancouver Canucks weren't happy with a penalty call made by linesman Devin Berg late in the third period of a 5-4 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames.
Vancouver's Elias Pettersson was called for high-sticking on Walker Duehr at 15:38 of the third period, an infraction whistled down by Berg.
Calgary's Jonathan Huberdeau scored on the ensuing power play to tie it before the Flames won the game in OT.
Rule 32.4 of the NHL rulebook states a linesman must stop play immediately "when it is apparent that an injury has resulted from a high-stick that has gone undetected by the Referees and requires the assessment of a double-minor penalty."
However, the penalty to Pettersson was only a two-minute minor. In addition, it appeared Duehr lifted Pettersson's stick with his own stick, causing it to hit the Flame in the face.
"I thought a linesman could only blow the whistle if it is a double minor," Canucks coach Rick Tocchet said. "I thought Petey's stick got kind of flipped up. ... It's a weird one. I still don't understand that. I'll get the answer I think from the league."
