The Arizona Coyotes acquired yet another contract of an inactive player on Thursday, obtaining Jakub Voracek and a sixth-round pick this year from the Columbus Blue Jackets for goalie Jon Gillies.
A native of Kladno, Czech Republic, Voracek hasn't played a game this season since Nov. 4, when he suffered a concussion. Reports out of Columbus say that Voracek is unlikely to play again.
Voracek, 33, is in the seventh year of an eight-year deal worth $8.25 million AAV. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that Voracek's contract has insurance for the injury.
In the first 11 games of the season for the Blue Jackets, Voracek had one goal and five assists for six points. in 1,058 career games with the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers, the seventh-overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft has 223 goals and 583 assists for 806 points.
Gillies, 29, is a six-foot-six goalie who has spent most of his pro career in the minors. In 32 NHL games with St. Louis, New Jersey and Calgary, he went 7-15-3 with a 3.31 goals-against average and an .893 save percentage.
The Coyotes have been very active leading up Friday's trade deadline, trading away defencemen Jakob Chychrun and Shayne Gostisbehere, as well as for the contract of injured defenceman Shea Weber, who is also unlikely to play again.
In the past, the Coyotes have traded for the contracts of inactive players Chris Pronger, Bryan Little, Andrew Ladd and Pavel Datsyuk, among others.
