Arizona Coyotes defenceman Jakob Chychrun has faced a setback in his recovery from a wrist injury and is still considered week-to-week, general manager Bill Armstrong said Thursday.
Chychrun hasn't played since March 12, when he suffered a season-ending ankle injury, and wrist surgery over the summer prevented him from participating in training camp.
Chychrun has also been involved in trade speculation since last season's deadline.
The 24-year old's rare blend of physicality and offensive prowess is under contract for two more years after this one at just $4.6 million per season, a steal of a cap hit.
A deal has still not come to fruition, and according to Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek, the Coyotes’ asking price has been the central obstacle to this point.
“Look, the Arizona Coyotes want to trade Jacob Chychrun. Jacob Chychrun has also asked for a trade. The price for the defenceman remains high,” Marek said Saturday during Hockey Night in Canada’s 32 Thoughts segment. “It's essentially the equivalent of two first-round draft picks, plus. So, that would be a combination of prospects, picks and players as well.”
