Arizona Coyotes forward Clayton Keller has avoided suspension and been fined $5,000 for cross-checking Ottawa Senators' Erik Brannstrom, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Friday.
The incident happened in the first period of the Coyotes and Senators matchup on Thursday evening, when Keller cross-checked Brannstrom in the neck area in front of the Senators' net. He received a five-minute major penalty and a game-misconduct on the play.
The 24-year-old has 14 goals and 31 points in 41 games this season, making him the Coyotes' leading scorer.
