Arizona Coyotes head coach André Tourigny will be behind the bench of Team Canada next month at the men's World Hockey Championship, joined by Troy Ryan of the women's national team.
Tourigny, who was an assistant with the team last year under Claude Julien when they won silver, will be joined by the Ottawa Senators' D.J. Smith and Alex Tanguay of the Detroit Red Wings. Ryan, who is head coach of the women's national team, and video coach James Emery (Calgary) will also be on the staff as the team begins the tournament on May 12 in Tampere, Finland and Riga, Latvia.
St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong is the lead executive, joined by Detroit's Steve Yzerman and Arizona's Shane Doan, as well as senior vice-president of hockey operations Scott Salmond.
Ryan's inclusion marks the first time a coach has served on both the staffs of both the men's and women's national teams. The women's team is headed to the semifinal of their world championship, where they will face Switzerland on Saturday.
Canada will face host Latvia in its opener on May 12, before facing Slovenia, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Norway and Czechia in the preliminary round. The gold-medal game is on May 28.
Canada has won just once in the last five tournaments, which was in 2021. The 2022 final was a rematch, but saw Canada fall 4-3 to Finland in overtime. Canada is the all-time leader in both total medals (52) and gold medals (27) at the men's worlds.
