Mike Matheson is ready to make his Montreal Canadiens debut when the team hosts the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.
Matheson was acquired over the summer in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenceman Jeff Petry and forward Ryan Poehling but sustained an abdominal muscle strain during the preseason.
The 28-year-old from Pointe-Claire, Que., recorded career highs of 11 goals, including five game-winners, and 31 points with the Penguins last season.
Drafted in the first round (23rd overall) by the Panthers in 2012, Matheson has 49 goals and 138 points over seven seasons with Florida and Pittsburgh.
Montreal is sixth in the Atlantic Division with an 8-8-1 record and 17 points.
Watch the Canadiens take on the Flyers starting at 7 p.m. ET on Sportsnet East, Citytv or SN NOW.
