The Detroit Red Wings youth invasion has added another name to keep an eye on.
On Thursday, the club announced that they had recalled forward Jonatan Berggren from AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins ahead of their game against the New York Rangers.
It is unclear at this time if Berggren will slot into the Red Wings lineup.
Drafted in the second round, 33rd overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft, the 22-year-old Swedish prospect came to North America last season to play for the Griffins after four years in the SHL, Sweden's top division. In his AHL rookie campaign, he scored 64 points in 71 games, setting a team record for assists and points scored by a rookie.
Berggren began this season sidelined after he was injured early during the Griffins' first game of the season. Since returning to action, however, the skilled winger has added seven points in six games, including four goals.
The Red Wings also recalled forward Givani Smith in a simultaneous transaction.
No corresponding moves have been announced yet by the club.
