Devils acquire Vanecek, draft pick from Capitals for two picks

The New Jersey Devils have acquired goaltender Vitek Vanecek and pick No. 46 in the 2022 NHL Draft in exchange for picks No. 37 and 70, the team announced.

Vanecek, 26, is a pending restricted free agent.

The netminder from Czechia has split Washington's starting goaltending duties with Ilya Samsonov over the last two seasons, posting a .908 save percentage in both campaigns.

If the Devils re-sign Vanecek, he'll join Mackenzie Blackwood in New Jersey's crease. Blackwood is under contract for one more season at $2.8 million.

For the Capitals, the next two goalies on the depth chart -- Samsonov and Phoenix Copley -- are pending restricted and unrestricted free agents, respectively.
