The New Jersey Devils got a big offensive injection against the New York Rangers on Saturday as superstar centre Jack Hughes returned from a shoulder injury, and scored a goal early.
The 22-year-old Hughes crashed into the boards during a game against the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 3 and has missed five games. At the time, he was leading the NHL in scoring with 20 points (five goals and 15 assists) in 10 games.
Hughes set career highs with 43 goals and 56 assists for 99 points in 78 games last season.
In the five games without Hughes, the Devils have gone 2-3-0.
Meanwhile, winger Timo Meier will sit out on Saturday as he recovers from a lower-body injury and is listed as day-to-day.
