New Jersey Devils forward Ondrej Palat underwent successful groin surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, the team announced Tuesday.
Palat was placed on injured reserve on Saturday after he missed the previous two games with a "lower-body" injury and met with doctors Monday to determine the final course of action. A date for his return has not yet been announced.
The 31-year-old joined the Devils over the summer via free agency after winning the Stanley Cup twice with the Tampa Bay Lightning, signing a five-year deal with an AAV $6 million with New Jersey.
Filling a need on the power-play unit and appearing on the Devils' top line, Palat has three goals on eight shots this season.
New Jersey recalled forward Andreas Johnsson from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League to fill the hole.
