The New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks completed a goaltender swap just before the NHL trade deadline Friday.
The Devils sent Vitek Vanecek and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Sharks for Kaapo Kahkonen.
Kahkonen has a .895 save percentage and 3.81 goals-against average in 31 games with the Sharks this season, his third campaign in San Jose.
Kahkonen, 27, will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Vanecek, 28, has an .890 save percentage and 3.18 goals-against average in 32 games with the Devils this season.
Vanecek has one year left on a three-year contract with a cap hit of $3.4 million.
The Devils made another move for a goalie earlier in the day, acquiring Jake Allen from the Montreal Canadiens.
